1) What do you believe makes you special or interesting?
We started a unique company and have made it a success for 16 years.
We work for ourselves - a huge achievement.
We found the happily ever after.
2) What kind of effect have you had, or would like to have on the world?
We want to be the role models for Just Do It - if you have a dream or a passion, pursue it.
We are proof that you can live a dream life because in addition to writing romance together and earning our living putting other people in novels together - how fun - we also have the rare opportunity to travel the world together.
When we meet new people and tell them what we do, they invariably respond, "Wow, I want your life!"
3) What events shaped or changed your life?
Falling in love.
Having faith in one another and in God.
Grasping hold of opportunities as they arose and sometimes creating our own.
4) Did you overcome obstacles - take risks - get lucky?
The risk we took was when I, Kathy, quit my "real" job with the security of a nice, regular salary plus paid health insurance to work full-time for our own company. That was eight years ago, and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. My husband encouraged me to put my talents (PR, marketing, journalism background) to work full-time for our company.
5) What have you done that no one would guess you'd done upon first meeting you?
Took surfing lessons at age 50.
Funny story: Actually, that same question is how the idea for the company came about. I was on a panel at a PR conference. Icebreaker question: What would people be surprised to find out about you? My answer: I'd written a romance novel. A passing comment at lunch, later, was "Wouldn't it be so fun to read about yourself in one of those novels.?" My then boyfriend and now husband looked at me on the drive home and said, "We could do that." That one decision - to act on a great idea - has changed our lives forever and for the better.
6) What is still left to be done in your life?
See our screenplay made into a movie.
Turn all the hundreds of hours of video we've shot all over the world into our own movies.
Write a book about our lives including the world travels and the work-for-passion philosophy.
Visit the last continent we haven't seen (Antarctica) and so many more wonderful places in the world.
Meet new friends, build another house, continue to help other authors with their dreams of publishing.
We have a pretty long list still.
