Peg Silloway - Married My Soul Mate in My 50's http://sillowaypress.com/
After decades working for others as a CPA, project manager, and sometime artist, I'm now doing what I've always wanted to. And I started just 2 years ago!
1) What do you believe makes you special or interesting? My varied background and serial entrepreneuring don't fit with the popular image of aging.
2) What kind of effect have you had, or would like to have on the world? My goal is to leave the world better than I found it, even if the effect it small and local. When I can teach people something, share an experience that helps them, or even pick up trash in my neighborhood, that's moving in the right direction. I'm a strong believer in helping people help themselve and in giving them the tools to improve their own futures.
3) What events shaped or changed your life? Two periods: my early years were happy and stable for which I'm very grateful; I believed I could do or be anything, even when the "rules" for girls were different.
Then in my middle years I went through an abusive marriage, financial crises, and years of not accomplishing anything I felt worthshile. But those early years provided a strong base that helped me come back and become a person I like.
4) Did you overcome obstacles - take risks - get lucky? Obstacles - yes. Interruped education (dropped out of college but went back and finished 13 years later), abusive marriage (learned the hard way to take control of my life), financial crises that left me with nothing, and risks (working as an artist for a few years as well as starting my own business with little capital.) Got lucky? Absolutely - met and married my soul mate in my 50's!
5) What have you done that no one would guess you'd done upon first meeting you? Done aerobatics in an open-cockpit airplane. I was a paying passenger for that adventure 3 years ago, but did fly small aircraft many years ago and would again in a heartbeat.
6) What is still left to be done in your life? Figure out how to fit more in the time I have! Make my new publshing company successful so that I can follow through on my commitment to donate a portion of income to a local domestic violence center, to support a program that gives books to inner city schools, and also to Heifer.org to fight world hunger in their unique and effective way. I'm enjoying life now and want to keep it going as long as possible.
